It was not all that long ago that many people in our area were saying “There is no way we will ever again have a cluster here in Knoxville.” Well because of the hard work and dedication of a number of people from both the TVKC and the Oak Ridge club that cluster is taking place this week.
A great deal of time, effort, and cooperation has gone into the planning of our first ‘Great Smoky Mountain Cluster” my sincere thanks to everyone that has given graciously of their time and talents to put it all together.
I hope all of our members will attend and will also participate in many of the extra things we are putting on to make this show fun and unique for our exhibitors and guests. Please participate in the ‘Country Fair”, The Chuck-A-Duck, The Make-A-Wish Bake sale, The Ice Cream Social, The Arm Band Drawings, and the prize drawings being offered at the show. The proceeds from these special events are going to very worthy charities and your support will be greatly appreciated.
If you would like to donate a prize to the Country Fair drawing or baked goods for the bake sale please contact Linda Pitts at 865-966-7867 or at email@example.com.
I and several other members will be at the site starting on Tuesday Afternoon so reaching some of us by phone may be difficult.
Our November meeting will be taking place on Tuesday November 16th. Our program that night will be spent taking comments on the cluster and accepting suggestions to take back to the committee as we plan for 2011.
For those that attended the October meeting our program by Dr. Peterson was very informative and gave all of us many new things to consider for the health and welfare of our four legged friends. Thanks to Dr. Peterson for her time and expertise on the practice of Canine Chiropractic Medicine.
Beth White continues to outdo herself as we have received great press coverage for the upcoming cluster and we have several live TV spots coming up during the cluster by WVLT with the first on Thursday morning at 6:10 and 6:40 AM so if you are up and about tune in.
For those of you attending the show on Thursday and Friday you will notice around group time a large group of Senior Citizens. We have invited local assisted living facilities as well as the Veterans home to join us for the afternoon on these days. We have over 150 people coming including a large group of U.S. Military Veterans. We will have a special area sectioned off for these people a great number in wheel chairs. Please be kind, courteous, and respectful to our guests.
This week is our time to shine. Please come out and help to make this a great cluster and create another positive image for the TVKC, ORKC and the City of Knoxville working hard to make itself the “Most pet friendly city in the U.S.A.”.
Just a note, it is very important for all of us as Dog Enthusiast to become active and visible in our community. As some of you know the Memphis area recently passed legislation requiring spaying and neutering of animals and a fee of $200 per year for those people with intact breeding animals. Becoming a well known contributor to our community will help to create a positive image for us and make us credible when we are speaking with our own lawmakers when items like these come up for discussion. Not getting involved is not really an option if we wish to continue breeding, and exhibiting man’s best friend.
I look forward to seeing a good turnout at the cluster as well as our meeting on the 16th.
