TVKC President’s Message
December 2009

Holiday Greetings to everyone! Our meeting and Christmas party is planned for December 15, 2009 at our regular meeting room starting at 6:30 PM. Paula Smiddy is in charge of the festivities and I am sure you will hear more from her as the date draws nearer. Our November meeting had just a super turnout and I would like to thank Mike and Linda Pitts for their program and also hope to see our many visitors return. Our members and visitors are welcome to attend our Christmas Party and meeting and I hope we have another great turn out. We will be awarding our “Sportsmanship award” at the meeting and we look forward to honoring this very deserving individual.

As mentioned at our last meeting, Catherine Bell along with Carol and I met with several members of the Oak Ridge Kennel Club to explore the idea of clustering with them at Chilhowee Park starting in 2011. I am very pleased to announce that starting in the fall of 2010 the Oak Ridge Club has agreed in principal to a two year commitment to Cluster with us. In the coming weeks we will be ironing out the details and getting everything in place. This is a very exciting accomplishment and starting as soon as this coming November is earlier than we expected. Our contract with them will be for two years and will be renewable on an annual basis so that if either club wishes to pull out there will be a full year to search for a replacement.

At this time the agreement is for conformation only and as time goes on discussions how to best utilize the facility as well as both club’s resources will be explored.

At this time each club will be represented by their show chairman and TVKC will be the host club and the “Cluster Chairman” will be a member of the TVKC. Both clubs will have representation and input into the cluster and I am confident we will soon be a serious player on the East Tennessee and National show scene.

At this time I would like to Thank Catherine and Carol for assisting me in getting the members of the Oak Ridge Board together and all of us being able to see the advantages this venture provides for both groups.

I did give a presentation to the entire Oak Ridge Club on Thursday December 3rd outlining our goals for the cluster and how both clubs can achieve great things if we all work together.

I hope to see everyone at the Christmas party on the 15th and Best of Luck to everyone attending year end shows.
