The board held its semi-annual expanded planning meeting and has made numerous changes to our committees and agendas.  The key element in these changes is a focus on including as many members as possible in various committees and projects for the short and long-term future of the club.

Please join us at the next club meeting as we share this vision and give you the opportunity to provide your insight on the future of the Tennessee Valley Kennel Club and to share how you want to be a part of making it happen.

SHOW DEDICATION

The TVKC Board voted at the September meeting to dedicate our 2012 Great Smoky Mountain Cluster Shows to long-time TVKC member Sally Gervin.

Sally Ann Byron Gervin, 70, was born August 16, 1942, in Birmingham, New York, and died at her Knoxville, Tennessee home August 24, 2012, after an extended illness.  The daughter of  John W. Byron and Ferne Davidson Noble, Sally graduated from Rio Grande High and Draughon Business School in Albuquerque, NM.  She lived in Albuquerque and Placitas, New Mexico,  during her first marriage.  Sally married William A. Gervin in 1976 and moved to Florida where she cultivated several landscape design and consulting businesses.  She worked as the parish coordinator at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palm Beach Gardens and was an active lay minister and vestry member.  Sally lived her faith, and she gave guidance to any as a lifetime  member of the Episcopal Church’s Daughters of the King, including serving as their diocesan president for Southeast Florida.  After moving to Knoxville in 1997, Sally continued as a Daughter, serving as chapter president.  She used her talents as an active lay minister at St. James Episcopal Church, and was instrumental in establishing their memorial garden.

Sally took delight in animals, especially her Chesapeake Bay retrievers who earned championship titles.  She was a valued member for many years of both the Tennessee Valley Kennel Club and the Oak Ridge Kennel Club.  She was also know for her pursuit of health and healing and her willingness to share her discoveries to help others.  Many looked up to Sally and appreciated her wisdom.

Sally is survived by husband, William; children, Wendy Lu Keith Cook and husband Christopher of Cary, NC, and Peter David Keith and wife Elizabeth of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; grandchildren, Audrey and Kirby Cook and Claire and Caitlyn Keith; dog, Annie; brother, David J. Byron and wife Maria Elena of Hayward, CA; and extended family. 

To honor Sally's contribution to the canine community, donations my be made to: Sally Gervin Canine Health Research Fund, PO Box 196, Greenback, TN  37742.

FALL TRAINING CLASS SCHEDULE

The heat wave is behind us and we are starting our training class back in full swing.  Here is a summary:

Conformation - Starts Monday Sept 10 at 7 pm - Class meets most Mondays.

Beginning Obedience - Wednesdays 6:15-7:15 pm
Five Classes  Sept. 12 - Oct. 10, 2012 

Beginning Agility - Sundays  4:00 - 5:00 pm
Five Classes   Sep 30 - Oct 28, 2012

Introduction to Rally - Saturdays  - 1:00 - 2:00 pm
Oct. 13 - Nov. 10 Three Classes plus field trip to TVKC Rally Trial at GSM Cluster Nov 3.

Advanced Beginner Agility - Sundays 4:00 - 5:00 pm 
Nov. 11 - Dec 9, 2012
Four classes plus field trip to TVKC agility trial on Dec 2

NEW MACH2 CHAMPION
Beth White and miniature poodle "Nina" completed the requirements for MACH2 title (Master Agility Champion 2) with a JWW run under judge Terri Campbell at the Weimaraner Club of America AKC Agility Trial in Murfreesboro, TN. August 23, 2012.  Nina is posing at home with all her loot from the trial.
