ANNUAL AWARDS POTLUCK: First I hope to see everyone at the June 15th meeting. The June meeting is our annual awards meeting and Jeanne Ring has again worked hard to provide those members who have earned titles their much deserved recognition. The meeting is also a ‘Pot Luck” supper and is just another great opportunity for fellowship with our fellow dog lovers.
THANK YOU OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERS: At the last meeting new officers and board members were elected for the upcoming year. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the contributions of those members who are coming off the board after long term service to the club.
First a big “Thank You” to Phyllis Fortune who we all know has served the club for many years as President as well as officer and board member. We are grateful that Phyllis will be the Obedience Chairman for the upcoming cluster and I know she will continue to stay active in our club and provide us her many years of knowledge and experience wherever she can.
Also after 8 years of service to our Club as the AKC delegate Karen Clausing will be moving off of the board. Karen has worked hard in her position and has always provided us with thorough information from the delegates meetings.
Also Eddie Dulaney, Nan Anderson and Deb Bailey get a break from board service and their hard work, dedication and insight will be missed. Our thanks to all for their service to the club.
A great deal was accomplished by the outgoing board. The club saw an increase in membership in the double digits, we were able to work out the details with Oak Ridge KC for the formation of the new “Great Smoky Mountain Cluster,” and we also held regular monthly programs. We developed a “Brochure” to introduce the TVKC to potential new members and held successful AKC events throughout the year.
MAY TVKC MEETING: Last month we had 45 members and several guests in attendance and had a wonderful program on “Holistic Approach to Canine Medicine” by Dr. Raditic of UT. It is unfortunate that we ran out of time but Dr. Raditic has said she would like to return in the future. Thanks to Pam and Barry Stanner for arranging her presentation.
GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAIN CLUSTER: Work on the cluster continues and the new board will be getting together to start planning for the upcoming year. There will be changes in various committees and I hope everyone will be receptive if asked to serve the club in some capacity.
SUMMER WARNING: The hot summer months are upon us and the shows are really in full swing. I wish everyone success in whichever venue they compete and remind them all to take the precautions to keep their dogs safe cool, and hydrated in the hot summer months.
I hope to see another great turn out for the June meeting.
Walter Sommerfelt President, TVKC
