University of Tennesse Colleg of Verinary Medicine Schalship Recogintion Luncheon
Dear TVKC,
It is with a my sincerest gratitude that I send a heartfelt thank you to the club for your generosity towards myself as an individual and towards my education with your financial support through the Scholarship fund. You have played a big role in my development as a soon to be veterinarian as well as an aspiring breeder and competitor in the world of dogs. I have felt welcomed and valued by this club from day one, and you have each played a big role in encouraging me towards my future career as a reproduction specialist.
To expound on this, I have a big announcement to make to the club. I have been chosen to be the next AKC/Canine Health Foundation Sponsored Theriogenology (aka reproductive medicine) Resident at the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg VA starting this July. During this three year program, I will receive speciality training on how to care for purpose bred dogs both with general medicine, surgery and advanced reproductive techniques such as TCI, Semen freezing and shipping, cesarean sections and much more. Being accepted into this residency position is a huge honor, as it is extraordinarily rare for a new graduate to be accepted into a residency position. I owe much of my success in my endeavors to the support of this club, as you have each supported me individually and as a group. There are too many names to list them all, but I must thank Judy Hart for answering all of my questions as a first year vet student and inviting me to my first TVKC club meeting; Janis Flaherty for taking me under her wing and providing excellent training regarding my handling skills; Walter Sommerfelt for writing a strongly positive letter on my behalf for the residency position, and to many of you for befriending me and supporting me with your feedback and friendship.
On a final note, thank you all for your commitment to the health, preservation and promotion of your breed. You are the reason that I am inspired to work with breeders to form a collaborative relationship to preserve and improve the health and well beings of our beloved dogs. Although I will be moving away to Virginia for three years to complete my training, I hope to return to Tennessee to practice thereafter. Please keep in touch and I hope to see you all periodically over the next three years at the southeastern dog shows.
